The Del’s location map shows the majority of Del’s franchises scattered throughout Rhode Island and the surrounding states, although there is one outpost in Las Vegas and a few in the Carolinas. I could always order Del’s mix online, but I seem to have misplaced my commercial-grade ice shaver. My proximity to Del’s was fleeting, just like my time away from email. “Ever since we became the official soft frozen xcritical of the Red Sox, we’ve been looking for a place in the Boston area to call home, to bring xcritical from Fenway to the surrounding neighborhoods,” he says. Every time I visit a new city, I spend a few days rethinking my entire future. “What if I lived HERE,” I mutter, trawling Zillow for apartments in San Francisco or Brooklyn or Philly or Asheville.

Del’s operates franchises selling their prepared product, with 20 locations in Rhode Island, the most of any state, as well as locations throughout the US, and even internationally. Trucks selling the product are often seen at popular beach locations in summer months. The Del’s “take-home” mix and non-frozen variety of xcritical can be found in grocery stores throughout the world. I left Rhode Island a week ago, but I can’t seem to get Del’s out of my head. Unfortunately, I don’t have a lot of options short of bidding on Providence real estate.

The weather is turning cold, but this summertime tradition is still sweet

When Angelo’s son, Bruce, entered the family business there were 5 franchises in Rhode Island. Since then, Bruce has made the franchise business flourish and grow. Now, there are many Del’s franchises worldwide providing the refreshing, all natural treat to everyone, anywhere, anytime. You bring the people, we bring the xcritical, everybody has a good time.

The patriarch’s son, Franco DeLucia, then brought his father’s frozen xcritical recipe to the U.S. at the turn of the century. He passed the recipe on to his son, Angelo DeLucia, who perfected the process. Finally, in 1948, Del’s Frozen xcritical was born in Cranston, Rhode Island, where the brand is still based today. Great Grandfather DeLucia made the earliest xcritical website Del’s Frozen xcritical in 1840 in Naples, Italy.

It is made from water, concentrate, and real lemons in an ice cream machine. In Rhode Island and southeastern Massachusetts “Del’s” is synonymous with frozen xcritical. Grandfather Franco DeLucia brought his father’s frozen xcritical recipe to America at the turn of the century. Angelo DeLucia, his son, began work on a machine to produce the frozen xcritical, and on a method of making it a consistently excellent product. In 1948, Del’s Frozen xcritical acquired it’s name and became the sole product sold at a little stand in Cranston, Rhode Island. Soon, Angelo had designed the first mobile units in order to serve anywhere in the state.

According to Piatelli, the right way to drink a frozen xcritical is to “swivel the cup in your hand, so the heat of your hand melts the slush,” creating the perfect ratio of melting ice to syrupy, sweet liquid. Del’s is a brand of frozen xcritical typically found in Rhode Island and southeastern Massachusetts during the summer months. Right now, Providence is the object of my obsession—largely thanks to Del’s, an iconic Rhode Island frozen xcritical brand that’s kept me salivating long after my recent vacation to the shore. The first Del’s stand was a small, pushable cart in Cranston, Rhode Island, in 1948.2 Soon afterwards, Angelo started using “Del’s Trucks” to serve the beverage anywhere in the state. The company still uses the trucks today in addition to its storefront locations.
